Who is Mumia Abu-Jamal?
Mumia Abu-Jamal is a renowned journalist from Philadelphia who has been in prison since 1981 and on death row since 1983 for allegedly shooting Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. He is known as the “Voice of the Voiceless” for his award- winning reporting on police brutality and other social and racial epidemics that plague communities of color in Philadelphia and throughout the world. Israel is holding more than 5000 Palestinians in its prisons. 200 of them are children. The report by The Palestinian Prisoners Society says there are also 15 women among the prisoners. The group says Palestinian prisoners are subjected to torture and maltreatment in Israeli jails, with 1,400 of them suffering critical health conditions. It also says that 150 Palestinian prisoners are suffering from serious diseases such as cancer. Four have lost their lives this year alone due to their illnesses. Berlin – The Kunsthaus Tacheles (Art House Tacheles), is an art center in Berlin, a large (9000 square meter) building on Oranienburger Straße in the district known as Mitte. Huge, colorful graffiti-style murals are painted on the exterior walls, and modern art sculptures are featured inside. The building houses an artists collective which is threatened with eviction.
