Fédération des Femmes du Québec Panel Against Racist Charter of Values (Oct. 2013)
Back in October, just as the racism was coming to a boil during Quebec’s winter of hate, the Fédération des Femmes du Québec (Quebec Women’s Federation) organized a panel on feminist responses to fundamentalism. It was a very worthwhile evening of interventions clarifying and denouncing the racist arguments at the core of the PQ government’s Charter of Quebec Values.
For several months i have been wishing some kind of recording of this event was publicly available, as i felt it provided a bunch of useful perspectives and reference points with which to discuss the Charter. It is unfortunate that it only went online after the April 8 provincial elections in which the PQ was defeated, but (sadly) it will almost certainly remain relevant in the months and years to come, as the cultural and political forces which proposed and coalesced in support of the Charter continue to evolve and move to solidify their racist agenda.
